Going for walks outside the home gives us a sense of freedom and wellness. Autumn is beckoning us to walk in nature and enjoy the beautiful changing colours of the leaves. Since the city has returned to Stage 2 restrictions, it is important to take care of your well-being. Paying too much attention to negative news can impact your mental health and increase emotional eating. If you don't live near a park, then walking around the neighbourhood is just as good. A research study from the University of California found that the people who went on nature walks with a sense of awe and wonder have experienced greater positive feelings of connection compared to people who did not approach their walks with awe and wonder. The researchers suggest approaching our nature walks like a new interesting experience takes us outside of ourselves, brings positive feelings and connection to something greater than ourselves.
